Scratch-like texture on lense from water?!

Ignore the top part of the lense which is the usual damage from being mounted in the frame. There are two large areas (one on each side/eye) as shown and a related scratch-looking part on the first two photos.

It looks like perhaps the salt thing Fitchy mentioned?

It's surprisingly hard to photograph.

How long did you own them, how often did you wear. If you run, jog, and sweat in them daily I've seen 1-2 years do this to them.
Unavoidable unless you really rinse and clean w soap after every run... In my opinion.
 
I've had them a few years but I've mainly been using my 1999-style M-Frames, so these were as new really. I think it was packing them away, uncleaned, during my run on that humid day which really stuffed up this lense, but I suppose it might have been building up for a while?

That's my guess, it was all the previous humidity, heat, temperature changes, dust, but definitely sweat too/salt.
