Both Here and There
So after meeting and befriending quite a few new members over the past couple years there is one thing that keeps coming up. They all show me where "well known" members are PMing their phone numbers to get around the two week rule and relieving them of their collections for sometimes less than a 1/3 value. It feels like by not allowing new people to post their stuff for sale we are just throwing them to the scummy vultures and the rest of us miss out on really good stuff. Not to mention the newbie does not get a fair value deal either. The only person that wins is the snake.

We need something new to let newbies show they are legit and allow selling right away. I have not thought of a way to satisfy both sides of the discussion but maybe if we put our heads together we can have a chance at these choice items to, not just the one maybe two members who rob us all of it while we never even know.

I disagree.
This Forum should be a exchange of passion and love for the brand and not another sales site. Selling at OF should be a privilege and a bonus for being a part of OF.
I would up the time period to 30 days and 100 messages before they are able to buy and sell Oakleys.
After 15 days they should be able to PM others.
If one comes here just to avoid fees at Ebay he/she/it is useless to OF anyhow.
By making it easier it will attract more of them.

Yea I get that... it is a whole nother issue. The nasty habit that is going on with several members here though is they are PMing their phone numbers to new members basically at the front door of the place and when they get done with them have their whole collection bought for 1/3 or less value then take it to other selling platforms and get 30% more than value. The rest of the members who are waiting never even had a chance because we are caught behind the two week requirement rule just as much as the new person and most members have the integrity and good character NOT to snake in early. I have seen the screen shots many times from new members and it happens ALLOT more than most pay attention to. I sure would like a fair shot at some of the newbies stuff to and the newbie deserves better than to be convinced a lowball price it what it is worth.

Can we at least make it where the new members cannot see PM's sent until the time period is over?

New members should be required to read the rules before using the site.
Posting a phone No. in the first few posts should be sanctioned by a 5 day timeout.
Because of some exceptions where seller bypassed the rules there is no need to soften them up.
Mods. should be much more present and step in if new member bend or ignore basic rules.

What should happen and what happens have never been in line and its not so much the new members seeking out a quick sale and the seasoned members with big pockets throwing big offers at them. I have literally seen this message... "Hello my name is ____________ , If you are looking to sell fast give me a call or text at ### ### ####" THAT IS WAY MORE UNACCEPTABLE THAN ANYTHING A NEW PERSON CAN MAKE A MISTAKE DOING ON THEIR FIRST DAY HERE!

I think you missed the exploitation.

The Flipper/snakes give the newbie their phone number.
Newbie sells their Dads/Uncles items to the snake for $0.30 on the dollar.
Snake only takes the high value items, leaves the standard and garbage for their fellow forum members to purchase.

Snake posts the items elsewhere (NOT HERE!) for 250% more than he snaked the unknowing Newbie for.

This is bad, & has been going on for several years.

Adding a larger barrier to entry with further exacerbate the issue.

It’s blatant and apparent, look at the welcome threads, and you can see it happening right in the damn open…again for several years now…
