What Else Do You Collect Besides Oakley? Any Hobbies Or Talents?

I took 2 voice classes and I'm in my 2nd chorus class so, I guess my professor could say that I'm a decent singer.

I used to be into high-end audio. I had a few nice 2-channel setups that I really enjoyed. It took me a long time to put them together, what was the pinnacle for me, and I learned a lot along the way. They were totally worth it. I could only find pics of one of them. All that stuff is long gone now, as I live in an apartment.

Love those electrostatic speakers. Fortunately for my wallet, I like headphones and earphones better

Nothing like a hybrid ESL to recreate the experience of being there.

My other set up was very good and didn't cost as much, but it also lacked the level of detail the ESL hybrid speaker is capable of reproducing.

My other hobby is cars. I kinda switch back and forth from cars in the summer to buying oakleys in the winter cause all my nice cars hide from that lovely white stuff.

In general I tend to collect things with a practical purpose. I also typically use them, not focused on resell value, that's something for my next-of-kin to worry about.

One exception to the "practical purpose" rule is jade figurines - The Wife is from Hong Kong and I try to pick up a few pieces every time we go back to visit her family. They have no purpose other than to sit on a shelf, unless you believe the mystical fairytale stuff (this one brings happy family, that one long life, this one fortune, etc...)

So, I consider a collection as something I've actively pursued to acquire just for the sake of having (and in my case, using) it. There's also accumulations, where you have a lot of something but it just kind of incidentally happened over time.

Collections (other than the jade) -
- Blades. My longest passion, practically all my life. Folding, fixed, swords; kitchen, utility, hunting, fighting, survival. Prefer functional quality over display quality. Almost all production pieces (no budget for custom) but some nice ones.
- Watches. I was into watches for a couple of years but don't vary my wear much these days and haven't added a new one for a few years now. Still have close to 20, though.
- Single Malt Scotch. Current stock is pretty modest, was much bigger and more varied before a period of unemployment about six years ago. Plus, there's turnover...
- Cigars. Peaked at over 1000, probably still 400 - 500. Don't smoke them much these days so I don't know if that collection will stay around long-term.
- Comics. Haven't bought any in almost two decades, but still have them from my teens / early 20's. About a dozen long boxes. Mostly Marvel.
- Laser tag. Got a huge stock of Laser Challenge V2 stuff, IMHO the best made for the consumer market, later stuff they cheaped out. Used to do games with neighborhood kids at the old house. Whether I keep it depends on whether our second child is a boy or girl.

Accumulations -
- Guns. Probably would seem like a lot in some parts of the country / world but here in Texas it's pretty modest-sized.
- Tools. Both hand and power. I'm a handy guy, seems like I'm always building or fixing something and it always seems like there's just one more tool you need for the job...
- Small-item scrap. Goes with the handy guy thing. Always keeping leftover odds and ends to be retasked for some later TBD project or repair.
- Books. I have a pretty big library but switched to kindle a few years ago and have been using e-books ever since.
- Scars. Definitely incidental, not actively pursued. But I've always got something healing somewhere.

The Wife actually initially supported my Oakley collecting because I wasn't spending money on knives or tools, but then she found out how much I was spending on Oaks... She collects shoes, designer purses, and things to complain about...

I have a strange thing I guess I collect or just keep. Movie ticket stubs. I have them for each movie I have gone to since 1992.

Not sure why but I just have kept them all. It is kinda cool to look back thru them. At least they do not take up much space.
