Why would anyone do this to a Juliet?

I laugh every time someone says that. Let me know how that cheap lens feels in your eye when a rock breaks it.
The cheap glasses I use are still ansi approved. I ran a roofbolter in the coal mines for 10 years and they always worked fine. Way cheaper than oakley.

The thing is Oakley lenses well exceed the ANSI requirements. The cheap lenses usually just barely meet those requirements.

Have you seen the videos where people take high pressure BB bullets to an Oakley lens? There's somebody even shooting the lens with a shotgun at close range.

It's less the price point and more the material the lenses are made out of. I don't recall, is there a video of Oakley testing against other polycarbonate lenses (the ansi z87.1 approved versions, not just normal polycarbonate)? The videos I've seen are them testing against lenses that are made of glass or CR39 plastic, which are not meant for high impact scenarios. It's like doing off road tests of a Jeep vs a Lamborghini and saying the Jeep is a better vehicle. You'd want to see items tested against similar functional items. If you have polycarb lenses you will be fine.

Also there are different ansi standards
Z80.1 - Recommendations for Prescription Ophthalmic Lenses
Z80.2 - Prescription Requirements for First Quality Rigid Contact Lenses
Z80.3 - Nonprescription Sunglasses and Fashion Eyewear Requirements
Z80.4 - Accessory Solution Use with Contact Lenses made of Conventional Hard Plastic such as Polymethyl Methacrylate
Z80.5 - Dress Ophthalmic Frames
Z80.6 - Physiochemical Properties of Conventional Hard Plastic Contact Lenses
Z80.7 - Ophthalmic - Intraocular Lenses - Optical and Physical Requirements
Z80.8 - Ophthalmics - Soft Contact Lenses - Prescription Requirements
Z80.9 - Low Vision Aids
Z87.1 - Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection

Exactly, the more expensive doesn't always mean it's better. There's no way I'm gonna put on $100 pair of Oakley sunglasses and grab a weedeater when I have 3-4 pairs of approved "safety" glasses in the tool box. It's both state and federal law that approved safety glasses have to be worn at all times for the job I use to do, so I had all the pairs I wanted at my disposal. I'm not saying my flaks wouldn't hold up just as good, but when I've got a scratched up pair of good safety glasses I'm gonna use them.

I have been wearing my Juliets at work for the past 5 years. You guys wouldn't want to see them lol. (they aren't too bad. Nothing a refinishing and lenses wouldn't fix) But I thought I lost them Friday and I was so bummed, but I just found them! Ordered ear socks nose bombs off the bay (Genuine Oakley naturally) looking at a pair of lenses. Do you guys know if Oakley still fixes the nosepiece inserts? Can they refinish them too?

If you want nose fixed and a refinish, multiple people can do it. My personal choice will be @zwc0442 as he's done Juliet, XX, and Romeo for me.

Some of my work I've done.

Awesome work! Yes, I will refurb these Juliets and baby them as I should have (I bought em over a decade ago) when they were missing I bought a pair of Ray Ban aviators in Titanium (apparently Luxottica doesn't make em in titanium anymore) although I shouldve gone with Maui Jim Mavericks. What's is the general attitude around here towards Luxottica?

+1 for Zach refinishing.

@chad S. If you're using safety glasses then I can stand behind that. When you said "out come the cheap glasses" I assumed you meant dollar store glasses. That's usually what people around here mean when they say cheap glasses. Actual glass lenses.

I'll bug him, the safety (and sport now I guess) eyewear company UVEX makes UV400 Polarized safety glasses (that resemble normal sunglasses) with a lifetime frame warranty for $14 off Amazon. That's what I ordered to use at work to replace the Juliets.
