Oakley Forager Sunglasses Review
Our Gear
We reviewed a pair of Oakley Forager sunglasses with a Matte Black frame and Prizm Violet lenses.
And while we didn’t have the highest expectations for this frame, they actually surprised us. Keep reading to find out why.
Initial Impressions
Unboxing the Forager, we were pretty underwhelmed at first. The frame is very simple with its rounded lenses adding the most to the design. But it still had some surprises for us.
First what we noticed was the size of the Forager lenses. We expected them to be fairly small but they actually were a great size providing plenty of coverage.
This gave us some excitement to finally wear this frame for a week and see how they hold up.
Frame and Design
Starting off, the Oakley Forager is a simple lifestyle design that relies on its rounded lenses to give this frame a trendy feel. Off the lenses are thin temples that we found to be comfortable all day, despite not featuring Unobtainium earsocks.
The Forager’s frame is made of O Matter frame material, making it lightweight and comfortable. Plus this frame features Unobtainium nosepads that help keep the Forager’s large lenses off your face.
Overall, this is a simple design that looks great on the sidewalk or on your bike and is plenty comfortable for all-day wear.
Prizm Lenses
As we mentioned above, the large round lenses of the Forager are one of the biggest style elements. But they’re also functional.
The 58mm x 50.9mm lenses provide maximum coverage and peripheral vision protection. For comparison, Gascan lenses measure 60mm x 35mm.
We loved wearing the Forager for the wide field of view coverage. And while we initially thought this frame looked more like a lifestyle design than sports performance, we had a great time using the Forager for biking.
Plus every Forager colorway features contrast-enhancing Prizm lens technology. Our pair features Prizm Violet which gave a great pop of color to this frame. We won’t go into too much detail here since we already reviewed Prizm Violet. But head over to that review for more!

Our Review – Are They Worth It?
We enjoyed our week wearing the Oakley Forager and would recommend them for anyone looking for a large round lens lifestyle frame.
This frame definitely surprised us with its large lenses and great coverage. From the start, we thought this would be another style standout pair like the HSTN, but it definitely delivers with performance!
That being said, this pair is great as a lifestyle frame with occasional sports and activities use. But if you’re looking for a sports frame, we’d still recommend top pairs like the Encoder or Flak Jackets.
