What exactly is a "push notification"?

And does it allow the forum to access our devices in ways we may not desire?

Absolutely! I'm already liking the push notifications, now that I've fine tuned them.

Nope, we don't access anything. It's just an alert on your phone/desktop. So just like when you get a text message or facebook notification and it popups on your phone lock screen - that's a push notifications. It's being "pushed" to your phone by the website. Essentially the best part of an app without the app.

The site has no access to your device or any information on it. It only sends you the alert and when you click it, it will bring you back to the website through your browser.

With the update we now support sending these notifications to Android devices and desktop computers (Mac and PC) - currently iPhones don't support this technology through websites (but hopefully is on the way).

Absolutely! I'm already liking the push notifications, now that I've fine tuned them.

Same here - using it with Chrome on my desktop too and definitely solid.

Had a slight hiccup just now resulting in ~6 minutes of downtime. Making some big performance related improvements, which should be rolled out this week (no impacts to features and minimal to no downtime). Just had a fat finger moment
