I had a direct experience with some shady stuff during a trade we tried to get done.. if it wasnt for the fact I looked at dr. Chops Facebook page randomly I would have missed the exact replica to the pair in our trade. I posted some screenshots of those chop replicas to him just hinting at the fact it was a coincidence that doc would paint those now.. I was then less than 6 hours later fedex overnighted the legit pair and was told he sent me the chop replica in a first shipment as a gesture of good will and that his insurance company instructed him to make copies of all his rare items.. he also stated that the real pair was kept at his safe deposit box in a bank... still he did not mention any of this in the tons of messages prior to our deal starting..so be it The fact there was also no mention of this good will gesture until I asked him about it made me feel less than confident about his intentions. Lol...and there was 300 dollars spent to have the legit set reach me before the fake chop pair lol... it just made me realize what was actually going on.. so after all that I ended up having 1 really well faked set and one other set that I had to figure out authenticity on. Oh and I screened the entire conversation during this trade. I also didnt mention at the time of the fake tater fiasco that just weeks before I was asked by this gentleman my processes on painting/sanding/ airbrush and in all custom work only to see just a week or 2 later all the taters that he owned pop up on Ebay. When I asked him about it he just said he didn't want to buy them as money was tight and that I should bid on them.. it was later determined that the exact faked pairs for sale were from a seller in the same little town that he was from. Go figure.. he is exceptionally nice and friendly but that doesn't make up for the weird and underhanded stuff that went on

Again, I'm aware of it but I don't want to be an echo chamber. I can only speak on my direct experiences with the guy.

But you know, none of that stuff went down before he was burned by BAPD over the fake gold OTT. Makes you wonder how that experience affected his worldview.

It wasn't a judgement statement, just some speculation on possible cause / effect.

I was gonna reply the same way.. well said. Regardless if I or someone gets burned by someone else doesn't make it right to do it to others to gain back your losses.. @kronin323 so you were aware of the issues regarding a rather large trade I had with Joe? I dont believe I posted anything about here and in the end I did better than he did on the deal. It just took some bitching with my peeps to have it corrected.. I was still not finished with him after that. So not learning my lesson I got into other deals but they all seemed to have gone smoothly. Put it this way. Anyone who wants to try to trick me on a frogskin has some balls.. if there is anyone here not to try that with its me.. that's what made it so shocking. I just wished I'd not said a word regarding the chop double and just let those come to blast it out here but being upset and confused I had to mention it to him... relief to me that the authentic pair was forwarded quickly and beat the fake..thank goodness for FedEx overnight.... lol. I ended up stripping down that doc chop pair and reapainting to something I could enjoy.. I just didnt want a double of something rare floating around.. even if it was for said insurance purposes...

No I was not aware of all the specifics, merely the multiple incidents of suspected sales of copies as originals.

I don't facebook but I have a friend who does and he shared the drama that went on there related to all that. So I knew more than what was posted here.

I just read the backstory of replica 1-of-1 pieces from a couple pages back. I should be surprised by it but it is a story that’s been told way too many times in this hobby. Big collectors trading on their large collections and reputations to rip off other collectors. Not just here on the Forum but you hear it on the o review as well....and similarly, those experiences are with some of the biggest name collectors creating fakes and passing it off as real. It is one thing to trade on your name to cheat a lesser experienced collector, but it is extremely bold to do it to a well established one with a good deal of experience. A sad turn of events that makes the hobby less fun and will drive the value of 1-of-1 pieces further down.
