Are Prizm Sapphire Lenses Polarized?

Yes, Prizm Sapphire lenses are available in both polarized and non-polarized options. Both have the same 12% VLT and base tint, but the Polarized option will provide additional protection against glare and eye fatigue by blocking more sun rays than traditional lenses.

Read more in our guide here on how Polarized lenses work.

Oakley Prizm Sapphire Lens Review

We reviewed Prizm Sapphire lenses in a pair of Manorburn sunglasses and honestly think these may be one of our favorite lenses right next to Prizm Road.

Immediately after putting on the lens, you realize it definitely is dark enough with the 12% VLT but still feels lighter than say a Black Iridium Polarized. As with most Prizm lenses you really notice the contrast-enhancing if you quickly change back and forth between sunglasses and no lenses.

Polished Clear with Prizm Sapphire Lens

It still surprises us that this is a Grey base lens because it really doesn’t feel it – likely thanks to Prizm. It feels like it’s more of a Rose or Brown tint similar to Prizm Tungsten.

Keep reading we break down our final thoughts and whether this lens is worth your hard earned cash.

Are They Worth It?

We’d definitely recommend this lens thanks to its ability to go from sports to everyday life with ease. After toying around with Prizm Sapphire for a day, it’s definitely not surprising why this is one of the most popular lenses (in terms of # of frames available).

Imho Iridum technology is coating the lens for greater contrast while polarization to prevent glare. Outside the difference is not visible. Sapphire is just a color of lens.

I get that the iridium coating can vary (ruby/fruby) but it appears the base lens is different. I wasn’t aware there was a difference...

Iridium is the reflective coating, it reflects some glare. Sapphire is the blue iridium. Polarization blocks more glare, and lowers the VLT% of the lens. Prizm is the proprietary Oakley technology to enhance contrast.

Your Mist Holbrooks look like my Polarized Prizm Sapphire Holbrook Metal from the user side, a kind of yellowy-green. I see the difference, the black frames have a more rosy lens in them. I do not own anything with Prizm Sapphire in it currently. I can't comment on if yours are different. Maybe someone can post their own shots, of their own Prizm Sapphire lenses as a reference.

I apologize, I understand all that stuff with the iridium coatings and all. But almost every lens I’ve ever had that was non polarized has looked damn near the same as the polarized version when looking through. That’s whats throwing me off with these. Seems as if prizm sapphire is different that prizm
sapphire polars.

I apologize, I understand all that stuff with the iridium coatings and all.

I was responding to LuckyNra at the same time, to clear up their confusion on what the lens features did. The difference between a standard lens and it's polarized version should be a slightly lower VLT% on the polarized one, that's it.
