If you have any interesting information/corrections, please leave a comment!

Introduction
In the Oakley community, 4 digit serialled X-metal Romeo 1s are often called "Jordan R1" x-metals. However, although Michael Jordan was sponsored by Oakley for 10 years until 2005 (he resigned from the board of Oakley in 2002) and had other Oakleys officially named after him, this wasn't one of them (even though he had a poster generally promoting the R1). He served on the board for 7 years and collected about $2 million (per year).

More historical information here (@oneonz).

Signs You May Have an R1 Jordan:-
  1. 4 Digit serial number (as opposed to the normal 6 digit serialised R1s)
  2. X-metal frame colour
  3. If complete, had the number handwritten on the box
  4. "Squared" off hammerstems. Normal oval shaped hammerstems are found on other types of R1
  5. Factory OEM red earshocks had NO "CE" or "made in the USA" markings. The spare pair of black earshocks that accompanied it had "Made in the USA" on one, but NO "CE" on the other earshock. See @NuttyOAK13Y's thread here.
  6. The right lens etching, "x metal" had a different script
  7. Apparently the finish on the Jordans was slightly different to other X-metal coloured R1s.
  8. Around 100 pieces were delivered with XL X-metal metal vault (with or without inscription) (@Cody Oslo)
  9. Nose bombs have smaller size than the normal R1 (@Cody Oslo)
  10. Weight of these frames may be less (at least for the first hundred). Apparently the Titanium alloy was different in the beginning and consequently, they were lighter (@Cody Oslo)
  11. The orbitals size are smaller then the regular 6 digit serialled Romeos (@Cody Oslo). Therefore eye jacket 1.0 lenses could be substituted into Jordans due to the smaller size (@gpstar)
  12. Temple shocks from early Jordans have NO markings at all (@Cody Oslo)
  13. Temple shocks from some of the versions released have a different font (@mjt42)

The first pairs with black earsocks were without any lettering, like the reds.
I have a pair that came this way.

You are correct in saying that they then had just 'Made in USA' and the 'CE' was added later.

I would add my fist comment and maybe to add for that list of technical details:
* Around 100 pieces were delivered with XL Xmetal metal vault (with or without inscription)
* Nose bombs have smaller size
* Weight of these frames it’s less ( at least the first hundred lot). It seams that the Titanium alloy it was different In the beginning and they are lighter.
* The orbitals size it’s smaller then regular Romeo (6digits)
